Ethidium bromide

At a concentration of 0.5μg/ml, ethidium bromide is useful in agarose or acrylamide gels for band detection. It is used to detect as little as 10ng of nucleic acid. At higher concentrations (0.5–1.0μg/ml), it may be used to facilitate purification of DNA in a cesium chloride gradient.

  • Fluorescent stain for visualizing nucleic acids

For maximum convenience, VWR offers ethidium bromide in various forms, including ready-to-use solutions and powdered forms. Each is packaged in shatter-resistant packaging for added safety. VWR’s ethidium bromide dropper bottle offers the ultimate convenience and safety. Simply dispense one drop of ethidium bromide into 50ml of agarose gel or running buffer (TBE or TAE) or staining solution.
