Evaporation systems use nitrogen blow down, vortex motion, and heat to speed up evaporation of up to 48 small samples or eight 450mL samples at once
Systems employ eight clusters of six ports each, and nitrogen may be delivered to 2, 4, 6, or 8 clusters at once so that nitrogen is conserved when a full load is not required. Microprocessor-controlled vortex motion (up to 500rpm) increases surface area for faster evaporation while continually mixing the sample to maximize recovery. Utilizing a dry block heating method (up to 100°C), systems provide a more reliable alternative to maintenance-intensive, contamination-prone water baths. Cabinet base is constructed of epoxy-coated cast aluminum. The upper housing is solvent-resistant, smooth acrylic/PVC thermoplastic. Chemical-resistant glass lid provides visibility of samples, and two clamps hold the lid securely in place. PTFE-coated aluminum chamber conducts heat efficiently and resists corrosion. Aluminum sample blocks are PTFE-coated.
Optional two-way RS-232 link allows remote control of functions from a user-supplied personal computer.
A stream of nitrogen or dry gas is directed downward onto the surface of the sample. Nitrogen blow down reduces the partial pressure directly over the liquid to speed evaporation and help remove the solvent as it evaporates. Systems may be used to prepare samples for applications such as drug development and metabolism, bioresearch, combinatorial chemistry, environmental testing, forensics, and toxicology.
Caution: Systems should be located within a fume hood if hazardous or flammable solvents are used. In all cases, regardless of the solvent used, it is recommended that the exhaust hose be vented into a fume hood or other laboratory ventilation device.
Note: Actual sample volumes of tubes depend on tube shape, height, and vortex speed.
