VWR® 16 Sample Purification System
Automated Nucleic Acid Purification Systems
VWR® 16 Sample purification system is a high throughput, automated system that improves the efficiency and reproducibility of magnetic bead-based purification protocols.

  • Compatible with all popular magnetic bead kits
  • Hands-off processing and consistent results
  • Compact design
  • Processing capacity up to 16 samples
  • Programmable with PC software or Android App

Capable of processing up to 16 samples at one time, the VWR® 16 sample purification system is easy to set up, program, and operate. Mixing, bead transfer, wash steps, and elution steps are performed automatically, saving time. The purification process can be completed within 10 to 60 minutes depending on the type of reagent kit used and the complexity of the program.

Android™ App or PC software for programming
Creating a protocol is simple using VWR® app or PC software; both are included on a USB flash drive with each instrument. The mixing speeds, incubation temperature, and magnet rod movement can all be programmed. When using the Android app on a tablet or phone, the saved protocols can be transferred to the instrument via Bluetooth connection or by using the included barcode scanner.Alternatively, the PC software can be used for programming and transferring the files by USB drive or barcode scanner.

Barcode scanning system
The handheld scanner, included with each VWR® 16 sample purification system, adds a convenient and fast method for loading a protocol onto the instrument. 2D barcodes are supplied by many of the magnetic bead kit suppliers, and these barcodes include the full protocol script for uploading to the instrument. Simply scan the barcode to instantly transfer the protocol. The Android app and PC software can also be used to generate the scannable barcodes.

Protocol optimization
The VWR® 16 sample purification system has been validated with several magnetic bead kits from leading manufacturers and a number of optimized protocols for specific applications are available. Sample temperature control
Lysis and elution steps often require elevated temperature for optimal results. The sample chamber incorporates heating strips that can be precisely set to any temperature between ambient 5...120 °C. Both deep well plates and 6-well reagent vessels fit into the contoured heating strips for efficient heat transfer to the sample liquid. Cooling fans in the instrument chamber maintain ambient temperature inside the housing.

Communication ports
The VWR® 16 sample purification system can store up to 100 protocols in its internal memory. These files can be transferred between instruments or to a computer for storage or sharing. Simply insert the included USB drive to export the selected files. Once a protocol has been transferred to the instrument, it can be run via the control panel.

Chamber sterilization
A UV lamp (UVC) inside the processing chamber provides effective elimination of most bacterial, viral, and stray genomic DNA contaminants. This additional safeguard reduces the possibility of contamination and downstream amplification of unwanted targets.

Control panel with touch screen
The control panel on top of the VWR® 16 sample purification system allows for quick selection of stored protocols and instrument control. To run a protocol, select it from the file list, insert the appropriate consumables (plate or sample vessels) and tip combs, and press the start button. Run parameters and operating status are displayed during sample processing.

VWR® Consumables
Avantor offers magnetic tip combs, deep well plates, and 6-well sample vessels specifically designed to fit the instrument. The 8-place tip combs lock into position inside the instrument's processing chamber. There are 2 options for sample vessels: 96 deep-well plates or 6-well sample vessels. For processing up to 16 samples, deep well plates are used. When only 8 or fewer samples need to be processed, the 6-well sample vessels are ideal, and these are loaded onto the included aluminum rack. These sample vessels reduce waste and lower consumable costs when only a few samples need to be processed.
