Cause a color changing reaction to happen using an enzyme you extracted from cells that you engineer.
- Safety First! The kit uses a non-pathogenic strain of E. coli (K-12)
- No prior experience necessary
- A perfect step in exploring the world of biotechnology
- Recommended for use with Amino Labs DNA Playground™ (available separately)
The Blue-It Kit™ lets you grow and engineer bacteria with a DNA program to create an enzyme that will cause a chemical reaction resulting in color-changing molecules. Extract your enzyme from the bacteria and mix into special buffers to see different colors appear!
In this kit students will: Make selective and non-selective bacterial agar, pour petri dishes, streak bacteria, make bacteria chemically competent, engineer bacteria using DNA plasmid (bacterial transformation), create positive and negative controls, incubate, culture bacteria, lyse bacteria, filter-sterilize extract, add substrates to catalyze chemical reactions, incubate, see results.
Additional equipment required but not included: Microwave or hot plate, microcentrifuge and Amino Labs DNA Playground™. In the absence of and Playground™ a thermometer, timer, ice bucket, water bath, and incubator are also needed.
Ordering information: Due to popular demand, we recommend you place your order at least a week in advance.
Delivery information: Though kits will ship at ambient temperature, some components will require refrigeration and freezing upon arrival. Refer to instructions.
