Isopropyl alcohol is ideal for precipitating nucleic acids. In comparison to ethanol, approximately half the amount is required for precipitation which minimizes the total volume for recovery. Isopropanol is a clear, colorless, polar organic solvent commonly used in chemistry and molecular biology laboratories. It will dissolve a wide range of chemicals, and evaporates quickly.
