Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside complex produced by fermentation of Micromonospora purpurea or M. echinospora. It is used as the sulfate salt.
- Ready-to-use solution
Gentamicin acts by binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome leading to inhibition protein synthesis and death in susceptible bacteria. Gentamicin is effective against a wide variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and is used for the prevention of bacterial contamination on cell cultures. Antimicrobial spectrum: Includes Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, including strains resistant to tetracycline, chloramphenicol, kanamycin and colistin, particularly strains of Pseudomonas, Proteus, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus.
Gentamicin sulfate is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used as a selection agent (gentamicin-resistance gene) in molecular biology and cell culture applications. This product is formulated to contain 10 mg/mL Gentamicin in deionized water and is recommended for use in eukaryotic cell culture at a volume of 1 milliliter per liter.
