Embedding Cassettes Tissue Processing Cassettes
The Tissue-Tek® Paraform® Sectionable Cassette System is an innovative two-part system composed of a rugged frame and a cassette insert made of an inert proprietary material

The Biopsy Cassette with Blue Sponge is 13mm in diameter and includes a small blue sponge. It is intended for use with small fragmented tissue. The Biopsy Cassette is 26x19mm with small woven mesh. It is intended for use with biopsy tissue. The Standard Cassette is 27x24mm and designed for use with standard size tissue. The Orientation Cassette insert is 26x19mm with extrusions extending from the bottom of the cassette. It is intended for use with tissue samples requiring “on edge” orientation. The lid has openings to allow the extrusions to slide through and lock tissue in place. The Shaved Biopsy Cassette is 13x20mm with 4 channels and fine phalanges to support the tissue. It is intended to be used with shaved skin samples. The Core Biopsy Cassette insert is 13x20mm with 4 channels, and is intended for use with punch needle biopsy samples.

All cassettes are made of a material similar to paraffin that allows sectioning through the cassette. The inert Tissue-Tek® Paraform® material does not pick up stain and does not interfere with microscopic examination. Paraform® Sectionable Cassettes are designed to be inserted into a Paraform® Frame. Cassettes are designed for use with the AutoTEC® and AutoTEC® a120 Embedding System, however they are compatible with all existing laboratory methods and manual embedding processes.

The unique sectionability provides a significant advantage over standard cassettes, as specimen orientation can now be preserved from grossing through to microtomy by simply orienting the grossed specimen in 1 of 6 available cassette types. After grossing, the tissue section is placed into the cassette, positioned as it should be cut, and processed in any tissue processor. The proprietary material is able to withstand exposure to all the volatile reagents and fixatives typically used in histology. Once the cassettes are removed from the processor, they are ready for embedding. The Tissue-Tek® Paraform® cassette eliminates the need to open the cassette and reorient tissue during embedding, thus simplifying embedding, increasing productivity, and streamlining tissue preparation.
