Ionomycin calcium salt (from Streptomyces conglobatus)
Supplier: MP BIOMEDICALS (FKA ICN BIOMED
Ionomycin is an ionophore produced by the bacterium Streptomyces conglobatus and is a polyether ionic antibiotic that exhibits an affinity for Ca2+.
- White powder
Ionomycin is used to stimulate the intracellular production of the cytokines, interferon, perforin, IL-2, and IL-4 usually in conjunction with PMA
In Ionomycin Ca2+ ionophore that is more effective than A23187 as a mobile ion carrier for Ca2+, non-fluorescent, induces apoptotic degeneration of embryonic cortical neurons.
It is used in research to raise the intracellular level of calcium (Ca2+) and as a research tool to understand Ca2+ transport across biological membranes. These cytokines are important in the inflammatory response.
Soluble in Acetone, benzene, chloroform (50 mg/mL-clear colorless), DMSO (50 mg/mL-clear colorless), CHCl3 (50 mg/mL-clear colorless) and hexane all clear and colorless
